SNAP Boards are an easy and smart way of adding functionality to your development board (e.g. Arduino, Raspberry Pi, etc.), simplifying the software development and creation of your own custom circuit boards.
With the current standards, it is necessary to plug one board in and out of the available header whenever you want switch boards. This is cumbersome and increases your development time. Also, no debugging capabilities are provided with those boards since there is no access provided to the pins. In addition, using those boards in your custom circuit board takes space (width and height), increases signal path and does not look professional.
Therefore, we introduced SNAP boards. Let us enlighten you with an example. Suppose you need an Ambient sensor, a Gyroscope sensor as well as an Accelerometer sensor. Embeddio SNAP boards offer various advantages:
- Snap them on top of each other, given their I2C capabilities, you are able to write your code much faster since you can use your various sensors at the same time! And if you’re wondering how many boards you can SNAP on top of each other? Basically up to 128! Enough for any project you might think of.
- SNAP Boards are designed such that it actually provides the user access to pins (e.g. SDA and SCL) using the stackable Arduino pin headers. This means you can simply plug in your wires from your logic analyzer or TTL serial cable which makes debugging even easier now that these pins are easily accessible, even after you plug your boards into another pin header!
- Done developing your software? Snap the module, with castellations and a small footprint, out of the SNAP Board and easily design your own custom circuit board. Just drag and drop the provided library inside your favourite PCB software (we support Altium Designer, Autodesk Eagle and KiCad) and make the appropriate connections - max 16 - with your other circuitry. The final step is to solder the module onto your custom PCB. As you can imagine, this will take you only a few seconds.
- Oh and just one more thing. To also be a bit stylish – as we engineers are – we top it off by letting you choose the color if you order a minimum set amount of SNAP Boards. You can choose between Blue, Green (default), Red, White and Black.
Embeddio's SNAP Boards are now available on Kickstarter! Schematics, Manuals and PCB libraries will be provided as well.
