Many of you may have come across various DC motor controllers on this or other websites. One popular concept is the joystick DC motor controller, where a joystick is employed to change the direction and adjust the speed of a DC motor. I've previously written few articles demonstrating this concept.
How to control DC motor speed & direction using a joystick and Arduino (engineersgarage.com)
But this time, the novelty is, joystick is wireless!
It’s a remote-control joystick and it has considerably long range of more than 1 KM!
This means it's now possible to control the speed and direction of a DC motor from a remote location (located at pretty much long distance) using a joystick.
Wireless joystick control for DC motors is already in use in numerous industrial, domestic, and robotic applications. Some examples include:
1. Smart trolley or shopping cart used in super markets
2. Luggage crane controller at stores and warehouses
3. CCTV camera angle controller
4. Pick and place robot controller
5. Omnidirectional moving robot controller
What makes this project particularly interesting is, it uses miniature (tiny) 8-pin microcontroller ATtiny85 in the remote-control transmitter which makes size of remote very small and handy. Another significant feature is its long control and operation range of approximately 1.8 KM, because of the serial RF transceiver module HC12.
There are very few components / modules used on both transmitter and receiver side. Transmitter includes ATtiny85 as a MCU, HC12 (RF trans-receiver) module and a joystick. While receiver includes Arduino NANO board as a MCU along with motor driver chip and of course HC12 module.
So basically, it’s a very simple system. As a joystick is moved up-n-down or left-n-right from transmitter side, it will control speed and direction of DC motor at receiver side. So, one can wirelessly control DC Motor from long-range using joystick.
Let’s see how it is done.
