We came to this project via the VIVES-Hackaton (@brugge) and offered the most vague problem. So this gave us the most creative freedom. We had only 3 days to choose, solve and defend our topic. So we set out to complete our choice of topic with our international team of students.
Damme has a lot of tourism because it is a beautiful old city with a lot of buildings and monuments that have a rich history. These are maintained by a declining staff of volunteers so the access to these buildings are not always ideal. So we want to help these volunteers and the city tourism center so they can get a better picture of who is visiting the city. But we also devised a way to give the visitors a digital guide in four languages by choice.
We use QR-codes for authenticating someone who wants to access a building so we know exactly who is inside at all times. QR-codes should be scattered strategically through out the sights. So we can link the QR-codes that are on the sites to the relevant data on the sights/monuments. We are using loraWan to communicate from the devices on site to the server that is at the tourism center. With some clever interpretation and calculation of the received data we can know a lot about what is happening on site. For example we can know for how long the lights have been on in total so when they are due for maintenance.
