💧 Water Quality Monitoring with IoT Mollusks! // CES '24
Ludovic Quinault shows us the MolluSCAN Eye biomonitoring system, which equips groups of 16 local molluscs with non-invasive sensors, running daily scans across 10+ biometrics (sleep cycle, spawn, stress levels, etc.) that provide feedback on water quality.
Micro-electromagnets and other sensors send data to an embedded Linux computer in a durable waterproof case, which is connected to a second Linux box on the surface via an umbilical cable.
This second device uploads data over cellular or Ethernet to centralized servers, where it is backed up, then processed and formatted for the client (including special custom oyster emoji!).
The information can provide deep insight for wastewater treatment plants, offshore wind farms, and other infrastructure – as well as ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
