Your e-Chariot Awaits

A YouTuber built a DIY "e-Chair" from a robotic base and a chair. It may not be a wheelchair, but the wild ride might put you in one!

Some people might call it a shoddy DIY motorized wheelchair, while others might think it is better described as a bad accident waiting to happen. But YouTuber ToadsWithLasers has a way cooler-sounding name for his creation — an e-Chair. Electric vehicles are all the rage right now, from bikes to cars, so why not chairs as well? Unlike other electric vehicles, the e-Chair has the advantage of being useful both indoors and outdoors, so it can take you across the room, then for a spin around the block.

As long as you don’t mind a jerky, awkward ride that feels like it could throw you off like an angry bull at any moment, that is. But hey, if you are working to turn electric wheelchairs into the latest tech trend, you have to expect that you are going to take a few lumps in the process. And in the quest to build the ultimate e-Chair, ToadsWithLasers is willing to take on that risk.

Truth be told, the goal was not all that difficult to achieve. ToadsWithLasers started with an existing six-wheeled robotic chassis, then took a junky office-style chair and strapped it on top with a bunch of tie wire. Boom! The future is now!

Well, that was it for the hardware, anyway, but the e-Chair did still need some software to get its wheels spinning. Those herky-jerky movements are not going to happen by themselves. After a quick coding session, the e-Chair was ready for action. With a laptop and gamepad, ToadsWithLasers can now cruise off into the sunset on his sweet ride.

This e-Chair may not turn out to be the next big thing in tech, but it actually does look like a blast to drive. And ToadsWithLasers noted that the battery will last for hours, so you can do some serious cruising with this thing. Be sure to check out the video below so that you can get the full e-Chair experience.
