For those of you who aren’t gamers, “teabagging” is a term for when you make your video game character squat up and down over the face of a defeated opponent. To keep our blog family-friendly, I’ll let you infer how the act got its name. While the purpose of teabagging is definitely to humiliate your opponent, it has become common enough that it’s usually done in good fun. Performing the act is just a simple matter of tapping the crouch button on your controller while you stand above a dead enemy, but YouTuber Insert Controller Here has built a custom controller that lets him literally teabag his opponents.

Insert Controller Here is a YouTube channel dedicated to creating wacky and entertaining custom video game controllers and controller mods. For example, we recently featured their knee-mounted motion controller to perform Falcon’s knee smash. Now Insert Controller Here is back with more Super Smash Bros. fun with their teabag controller mod. They’ve actually built two different mods to perform the same act: one that works when you dip an actual teabag into a mug of hot water, and one that lets you do the physical squatting yourself.

Both controller mods work using an Arduino Pro Micro microcontroller development board. For the mug version, a wire runs from the Arduino into the teabag and a second wire runs from the Arduino into the water in the mug. When the teabag is dipped in the water, the circuit is completed and triggers the crouch button press. The version that requires you to actually squat is done using an ultrasonic sensor connected to the Arduino. The sensor points up from the ground, and triggers a button press when you lower yourself close enough to it. Both are great ways to get as much satisfaction as possible from teabagging your defeated enemies.
