If you’ve ever dreamt of building your own version of Wolverine’s claws from X-men, this project by Hugo Silva is a great place to start. Though the write-up shows how to print the assembly and attach it using straps, what is really interesting is that the claws extend and retract by squeezing your hands into a fist.

This is accomplished in the initial version by an EMG (electromyography) sensor that detects changes in one’s forearm muscle, along with littleBits and BITalino components to activate the device’s servo. The second iteration, meant to be cheaper and simple to make, employs an Arduino Nano along with a force-sensitive resistor for control.

Unfortunately, it’s described as being “more temperamental,” meaning that you’ll really need to watch where you point it, even if the claws are printed out of plastic!
