Everything is moving faster in the world of IoT these days, thanks to the ESP32-C5 microcontroller. While maker-grade chips typically support older Wi-Fi generations and only 2.4 GHz bands, the ESP32-C5 offers blazing-fast wireless connectivity with its dual-band, Wi-Fi 6 radio. And now integrating this microcontroller into your projects is easier than ever with a pair of new development boards released by LILYGO.

Both boards are built around the ESP32-C5 chip. The T-Dongle C5 is a more powerful and better-equipped development platform with 16 MB of flash, 8 MB of PSRAM, and support for TF cards. It also comes standard with a 0.96-inch, 65K-color display for easy user interface development. This option, as the name implies, comes in a USB-A dongle form factor, so no extra wires are needed for use.

If you need something more compact for your projects, the T7-C5 could be just what you are looking for. It is a barebones development board that is about the size of a postage stamp. It comes equipped with 4 MB of flash memory and there are 16 GPIO pins available for interfacing with external hardware.

These are very versatile boards that could be used in a wide range of projects. They are also pretty cheap, so rather than trying to decide on one, the best option might be to snag both for when you eventually need them. The T-Dongle C5 is currently selling for $13, and the T7-C5 is going for about $8.
