Why You Can’t Afford to Miss Arm TechCon 2018
A guest post by Brian Fuller, Arm Editor in Chief
We’ve come a long way since 1982 when a Coke machine became the world’s first Internet-connected device. It was able to report its inventory and whether newly loaded drinks were cold. Flash forward to a fun little project that CTO Mike Muller and friends did some years later at Arm: A toaster, connected to the internet (specifically weather forecast information), that popped out toast with a cloud or sun image burned in, depending on the outlook.
Today we’re looking at 1 trillion connected devices in the coming years generating 10 trillion streams of data. It’s a complex and challenging journey ahead, but the Arm ecosystem is already busy attacking the pain points.
What are they and how are engineers solving these problems? Arm TechCon 2018 is the place to find out. Arm TechCon, which takes place October 16–18, is the industry’s premier Arm technology event, with scores of exhibitors, an industry-leading technical program, provocative and compelling keynotes and theater sessions, and a sea of engineers to network with. It all comes with an intense focus on trying to solve today’s challenges to clear the road to the future.
This extends from the technical –such as how to debug your complex SoC, to the visionary — such as how the industry might build end-to-end security or address issues with artificial intelligence and machine learning implementations. Want to hear from Arm business and technical leaders? Curious about the vision of executives from SoftBank, Snips, Boston Dynamics, and others? Arm TechCon is the place. Are you focused on a particular segment, such as automotive, mobile, IoT, machine learning, networking infrastructure? We’ve got sessions and dedicated tracks just for you.
This year the event moves to the San Jose Convention Center and is more compelling than ever because the challenges the industry faces are more complex than ever.
Consider established computing models: We’ve successfully leveraged cloud computing for years now, capturing data at the edge and computing on it in the cloud before sending it back to the edge devices. But the volume and velocity of data being captured today requires us to rethink this model. At Arm TechCon you’ll hear keynotes and sit in technical sessions that describe an evolving world of distributing computing, where the right processing is deployed at the right spots in the network for optimal and more secure results.
As the IoT evolves, how can companies tap into data to help transform their businesses in ways that are efficient, effective and pain-free? You’ll hear visionary talks on that as well as deep-dive presentations about the evolving relationship between hardware and software in the IoT and new solutions to solve thorny problems.
The Arm ecosystem innovates at the center of computing innovation around the world. Arm and Arm partner experts will be at Arm TechCon ready to help you tackle your biggest design challenges.
New this year are two pavilions full of leading-edge technology solutions. The Arm Automotive Pavilion will showcase ecosystem partners who are defining the future of automotive design. See demos that highlight how Arm-based processing power is driving the next wave of automotive innovation, including ADAS/autonomous systems and in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) systems.
The Innovator Pavilion will host key technical experts from the Arm Innovator Program who will showcase the latest in artificial intelligence, computer vision, IoT and wearable technologies. Hear from three of our innovators in their technical talks: Kwabena Agyeman, co-founder of OpenMV, Dr. Laurent Itti, founder of JeVois, and Laura Kassovic, co-founder of mbientlab.
Also at the Innovator Pavilion, you can experience the latest NXP hardware and solutions in drone technology at our interactive DroneZone. Just watch for low-flying aircraft!
And then there’s beer: daily networking sessions meant to help you network (planned or unplanned) with like-minded engineers who may just have the answer you’ve been seeking.
