What Can You Achieve If RP2040 Had Access to Ethernet? RPi Pico and WIZnet Can Be a Perfect Match!

WIZnet is holding a contest based on two new RPi Pico-compatible products. Participants get a free hardware sample and chance to win $5,000!

Sponsored by WIZnet

Since RP2040 and Raspberry Pi Pico were introduced in 2021, the popularity among DIY enthusiasts and hobbyists have been growing. Whether you are a beginner learning how to code or an engineer creating embedded industrial applications, Raspberry Pi provides one of the most user-friendly environments and simple implementation for various projects. On a similar note, WIZnet provides the easiest way to add Ethernet to both industrial and IoT projects.

WIZnet Ethernet HAT, a Raspberry Pi Pico pin-compatible Ethernet expansion board, and W5100S-EVB-Pico, an eval board that combines RP2040 with W5100S, were released last October.

Contest information

This year’s contest consists of two categories: ‘Hardware + Software’ and ‘Software only.’

As the Raspberry Pi Pico market grows, WIZnet believes in the power of open source and community; to further collaborate in developing SDKs and IDEs. Thus, for developers who wish to port or improve our ioLibrary, there is a ‘Software only’ option.

If you have any device or project idea that includes PCB development and minimal software development, apply for the ‘HW+SW’ option. This should it be smart bulb or healthcare device - we accept all!

Contest rewards

Both categories will have their own winners, with prizes totaling $30,000!

Contest timeline

New boards

Every participant gets ONE free sample board (either W5100S-EVB-Pico or WIZnet Ethernet HAT of your choice).

The W5100S-EVB-Pico is a microcontroller evaluation board based on the Raspberry Pi RP2040 microcontroller chip and full hardwired TCP/IP controller W5100S chip. The W5100S-EVB-Pico has the same role as the Raspberry Pi Pico platform and includes W5100S, which means Ethernet function is included. This board is also AWS IoT Core Qualified.

The WIZnet Ethernet HAT (Hardware Attached on Top) is a Raspberry Pi Pico pin-compatible board that utilizes W5100S and supports both 3.3V & 5V. Please refer to this link to find more information about W5100S.

How to participate in WIZnet Ethernet HAT Contest?

Who is WIZnet?

Established in 1998, WIZnet patented its hardwired TCP/IP stack technology. Our hardwired TCP/IP chips have been used in various Arduino ethernet shields and were proven to later become the ‘de facto standard’ for Ethernet in the Arduino world. We believe RP2040 would be a game changer and would like to join and develop its ecosystem together.
