After obtaining a Hero5 camera, Maker and Hackster team member Jeremy Cook decided that its voice control capability would make a novel way to control it with an Arduino. With this in mind, he hooked up a small speaker to an ISD1820 voice recording module, then let a Nano trigger commands like, “GoPro, take a photo.”
The idea is that something like this could be used for time lapse or panorama control, and his cylindrical fixture features a servo modified for continuous rotation.
As explained in the clip below, it’s currently working, albeit inconsistently. Cook hopes to have it perfected in the near future, perhaps with video or panoramas taken with it.
UPDATE: Cook tells us that his latest (and final?) version is now operating as imagined! Updates include a custom breakout for powering the servo, an enclosure for the speakers, a taller structure to accommodate the speaker enclosure, as well as larger holes in the top for sound to “escape.”
But don’t just take our word for it, you can check out some recently captured panoramic shots and rotating displays from a Florida beach here…
