Upgraded LilyGO TTGO T-Watch-2020 V3 Gets an On-Board Microphone for Wearable Voice Projects

The overall design remains unchanged from last year's model, but the speaker and amplifier are now joined by a PDM microphone.

Chinese electronics specialist LilyGO has launched another model in its Espressif ESP32-powered TTGO T-Watch family, this time bringing a microphone along for the ride in the T-Watch-2020 V3.

The original LilyGO TTGO T-Watch-2020 launched in mid-2020, designed as an upgrade to the somewhat bulky original TTGO T-Watch — sacrificing compatibility with add-on modules in favor of a considerably slimmer design. The TTGO T-Watch-2020 V3, brought to our attention by CNX Software, keeps the overall design intact, but offers a new input in the form of a PDM microphone.

Elsewhere, little has changed: The watch is still powered by a dual-core 240MHz Xtensa LX6-based Espressif ESP32 microcontroller with 520kB static RAM (SRAM), 8MB of pseudo-static RAM (PSRAM), and 16MB of QSPI flash, there's a 1.54in capacitive touchscreen display, an amplifier and speaker, BME423 three-axis accelerometer, real-time clock, vibration motor, infrared transmitter, and a 380mAh battery.

The ESP32 module provides wireless connectivity, too, in the form of 802.11/b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2, while a micro-USB port — hidden under a small flap near the crown-like power button — enables charging via an AXP202 power management IC and a data connection for programming via the Arduino IDE, MicroPython, Scratch, or another language of the user's choice.

The watch is now available through LilyGO's AliExpress store, priced at $29.47 plus shipping.
