Update: Onion Releases Omega2 Pro IoT Development Board

Following on the success of the Omega2 and Omega2 Plus, Onion is back with a third installment in their Omega line — the Omega2 Pro, which is a self-contained platform with the processor, memory, storage, and Wi-Fi radio baked into a single board. Onion states it will come pre-loaded with OpenWrt and can be programmed in nearly any language, including Python, GoLang, NodeJS, C++, PHP, and a host of others.

As far as features are concerned, the Omega2 Pro is outfitted with a 580MHz MIPS CPU, 512Mb of RAM (128Mb of RAM, 384Mb of Flash), 8Gb of eMMC, a 30-pin GPIO header, micro USB port, USB host port, USB-to-serial, 2.4GHz 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, RGB LED, programmable button, and power management options. The board also packs a 2 dBi directional chip antenna, as well as a U.FL connector for an external add-on.

Like with the Omega2 and Omega2 Plus, the Pro will be able to take advantage of the OnionOS — a web-based GUI interface that hosts a number of apps that can be used to configure and control the board. The latest revision sports an improved code editor and a fully-fledged terminal.

They’ve even included an app for their new NFC-RFID Expansion board, as well as the ability to switch between open apps on the sidebar and the ability to close them out by clicking on the ‘X.’ Onion has launched their Omega2 Pro campaign on Crowd Supply with pledges starting at $49 and up. Onion has thrown in several of their popular expansion boards with the higher pledges — OLED Display/Ethernet for $82, and NFC/RFID, ADC, GPS, Servo, Relay, Proto, OLED Display, and Ethernet boards for $169.
