Toshiba, MikroElectronika Partner for Clicker 4 for TMPM4K Motor Control Development Boards

Designed with motor control firmly in mind, MIKROE's new development board pairing gets you started with Toshiba's M4K microcontroller.

Toshiba has announced a partnership with MikroElektronika to launch a new development board for the mikroBUS Click ecosystem, driven by a Toshiba M4K microcontroller and made with motor projects in mind: the Clicker 4 for TMPM4K.

A two-board design, the Clicker 4 and Clicker 4 Inverter Shield offer four mikroBUS sockets to host any of a range of Click board add-ons, from microphones and accelerometers to radar modules and LED matrices, plus six MOSFETs for driving motors at up to 48V with full over-current protection and interfaces for positioning feedback from Hall sensors and incremental encoders.

The Toshiba-specific variant is designed for Toshiba's M4K motor control microcontrollers, which pack an Arm Cortex-M4 processor core with floating-point and memory-protection units (FPU and MPU) running at up to 160MHz. The chips also offer a vector extensions for acceleration of edge-AI and other vector-based workloads, 256kB of flash storage for program code and an additional 32kB of data storage, and advanced programmable motor driver (A-PMD) functionality — the latter partnering well with the Clicker 4 Inverter Shield's motor-driving capabilities.

The hardware includes an on-board debugger and software support in Toshiba's MCU Motor Studio, which includes a scalable and configurable firmware for the M4K microcontroller and Motor Control PC Tool software for adjusting various parameters, controlling drive motors, and real-time logging and diagnostics via high-speed UART connectivity.
