Tiny OLED Panel Meter
SSD1306 OLED display augmented for drop-in power monitoring.
0.96" SSD1306 OLED displays are used in all manner of projects, but need to be controlled by something. This measurement device by TecKnacks, though, pairs an OLED with additional components, allowing it to be inserted into a circuit to show the voltage and current.
The device has roughly the same footprint as a typical 0.96" OLED display, with the add-on board measuring in at 27 x 28mm (1.06 x 1.1in). The new board makes it thicker than an OLED alone, but the overall assembly is still extremely compact.
The device uses an INA226 power monitoring IC, which can measure up to 36V and 5A with a high degree of accuracy (offset voltage max 10 microvolts, gain error 0.1%). The unit itself is separately powered, with a 3.3V LDO regulator that works in the range of 5-40V. An ATmega328P processor is the brains of the operation, which can be reprogrammed via an FTDI device as needed.
Code, components, and a bill of materials can be found here, and with the FTDI interface you could theoretically come up with all kinds of uses for this enhanced OLED. However, having a ready-to-use compact panel meter like this would be useful in a wide variety of situations as-is. One might even put it to use as a compact standalone test device.
The Mini OLED Panel Meter is available for purchase on Tindie for $39.99. No calibration is required, so it's ready to start taking measurements!
