This Tiny RC Car Has Got It All
This tiny 1:64 scale model truck became a full-featured RC vehicle with lights, steering, and Bluetooth control.
You don’t have to stop playing with toys just because you grew up. In fact, some of the most creative people get their best ideas from playing around with toys. However, these are not all going to be the same types of toys that would have interested you as a child.
Matchbox cars, for instance, may keep a toddler entertained for hours on end, but they aren’t going to hold an adult’s attention for very long. That is, unless YouTuber diorama111 gets to them first. By upgrading tiny model cars into radio-controlled (RC) vehicles, diorama111 makes them fun for all ages.
In a recent video, diorama111 walks us through the process of converting a 1:64 scale Suzuki Carry truck into an RC car. The challenge, of course, is fitting all of the required hardware inside the stock shell of the model. That is no easy task, but diorama111’s skill makes it look easy.
Not only are the parts made to fit, but no corners are cut in the process. The upgraded truck has a rear-wheel drive mechanism, steering, headlights, turn signals, hazard lights, brake lights, and reverse lights. All of these functions can be controlled wirelessly via a Bluetooth remote.
The car is controlled by an onboard Microchip ATtiny1616 microcontroller. A separate Bluetooth module allows for remote control, and a tiny, 50mAh rechargeable battery supplies the system with power.
Seeing a model car come to life is almost surreal. If you aren’t sure you have the skill to pull off a build like this on your own, then you will at least want to watch the video so you can live vicariously through diorama111.
