Each of us has our own distinct tastes when it comes to furniture, décor, and art, so this project won’t be for everyone. If you’d describe your tastes as “traditional” and the sofa in your sitting room is covered in ornate filigree, then this definitely isn’t for you. For those of you who enjoy a piece of furniture with a bit of flair, this end table is for you. It’s an “infinity” cube end table full of sound-reactive LEDs, and QuackMasterDan’s tutorial will walk you through how to build your own.

An “infinity mirror” is made up of at least two mirrors, with one of those being a two-way mirror that you can see through. When the mirrors are facing each other with lights placed in the gap between, it creates a visual effect where the lights reflect back and forth forever. Usually we see them in the form of wall decoration, but this project takes the concept into three dimensions. The cube-shaped end table has a two-way mirror on each face, so that the light can reflect from one surface to the next inside the table. It results in a really neat effect that is further enhanced when the LEDs are reacting to whatever music playing.

There are many ways to build a cube end table, but QuackMasterDan constructed his using T-slot aluminum extrusion. That made it easy to fit the mirrors into place and assemble the sections. You can purchase two-way mirrors (also called one-way mirrors), but at this size it is more affordable to make your own using mirror film. The inside of the frame should then be lined with strips of WS2812B individually-addressable RGB LEDs. In this case, those were controlled with an SP107E controller that can be paired with an app via Bluetooth, but you can use whichever controller you prefer—there are many on the market. Because you’ll likely be using a lot of LEDs, you should take care to ensure your power supply is sufficient and power is distributed properly. Put the final mirror in place to close everything up, and you’ve got an end table that doubles as a flashy piece of art!
