The idea of a smart doorbell may not be anything new; however, most of the solutions on the market today are packed with way too many features or extremely complex to install. Designed with simplicity in mind, the Ding Smart Doorbell team is on a mission to change the home accessory for the better — with both brains and beauty.
The system consists of three parts: a contemporary and aesthetically-pleasing doorbell button for your doorframe, an elegant doorbell chime for inside, and an accompanying smartphone app. When a visitor presses the button, the chime dings and also places a voice call through the Ding app, allowing you to chat with the person at your door from anywhere.
What this means is no more tiptoeing around the house trying to avoid a solicitor at your doorstep, and no more missing an important package from UPS. Thanks to Ding, you’ll now be able to rearrange a delivery or let couriers know a safe place. Plus, parents can configure the unit to turn the chime off and instead receive quieter calls as to not wake sleeping children. Heck, it can even come in handy for Airbnb landlords.
Rather than trying to make it an all-in-one security cam, smart lock and motion sensor, the Ding creators set out to provide a simple, effective way of communicating. The button connects to the Chime using DECT, and the chime talks to your router over Wi-Fi. The button can run up to six months on a set of batteries, or can be hardwired instead.
Sound like something you want for your smart house? Preorder your Ding on Kickstarter, where it’s already off to a great start! The button comes in a variety of colors and its companion chime can be covered in choice of textiles to suit any home.
