This Device Turns Netflix Characters Into Your Personal Trainer

Let’s face it, we all dream about the perfect beach body yet not all of us actually follow through with exercising. But what if there was a simple device that could help whip you into shape by transforming your favorite Netflix character into your personal trainer?

This is exactly what the Netflix team has done for their latest DIY project, which delivers motivational words from Ultimate Beastmaster’s Terry Crews, Marvel’s Jessica Jones, House of Cards’ Frank Underwood, and others during your gym session.

To get started, choose the character you want as your coach from one of three categories (tough love, positive reinforcement, or comic relief), then set the threshold for your activity level. The personal trainer connects to your smartphone over Bluetooth and uses an accelerometer to monitor your workout.

Any time you start slacking, your coach will momentarily mute or pause your tunes to give you a little pep talk. It will also stop a show if you’re watching Netflix on iOS.

In terms of hardware, the gadget consists of an Adafruit Trinket, a Bluetooth chip, an audio module, an accelerometer, a charging circuit, and a few other components — all housed inside a sleek wooden case with a customizable acrylic faceplate. Plus, three LEDs on the front serve as an activity meter.
