Consumer 3D printing has matured rapidly, and it’s now easy enough that just about anyone can do it themselves at home. But, what hasn’t kept up is the 3D modeling software used to create the files you print. While the software options have grown in number and decreased in price, the fact is that traditional 3D modeling is just a difficult skill to learn.

Yeehaw 3D has come up with a product that they think will make the process much more intuitive for casual hobbyists. The Yeehaw Wand works in conjunction with your smartphone or tablet to act as tool for creating 3D models in augmented reality. This allows users to see their model in a real physical space as they interact with it using the Wand.

The Yeehaw Wand comes with a small turntable which provides a platform to sculpt your design on. The platform lets your rotate your model within the augmented reality environment, while the Wand is used for drawing. 3D models are created by drawing lines and giving them thickness, or by using and modifying basic primitive solids.

This isn’t the ideal setup for intricate or precise modeling, but it’s obviously not intended to be. It’s meant for quick and intuitive modeling without requiring previous experience. The Yeehaw Wand is on Kickstarter until January 14th, and super early birds can get a Wand with a 360° plate included for $99.
