While we’ve seen many makers create discreet DIY gaming systems, Belgian student Ilhan Ünal has taken quite the opposite approach by developing the world’s largest Game Boy. The project, known as the “Game Boy XXL,” stands three feet tall and two feet wide, making it approximately seven times the size of the classic Nintendo device.

The Game Boy XXL is approximately seven times the size of the original handheld device.

Not only does it look fantastic, the massive machine is fully functional as well, thanks to a Raspberry Pi embedded inside. As you could imagine, playing the system is quite a workout, requiring a user to press its buttons with their entire hand.

Ünal says that pressing the buttons requires so much strength that he can’t feel his arms after an hour of playing!
“The Game Boy was a huge part of many people’s childhoods, including my own. I was obsessed with my Game Boy as a kid, so I wanted to create something that would put a smile on little Ilhan’s face, and hopefully on the face of anyone who is a big kid at heart.”
