The UltraBar X Could Make Your Workflow More Efficient
The new UltraBar X can make your workflow more efficient by giving you quick access to macros, shortcuts, important information, and more.
Spend years mastering software like Autodesk Fusion, KiCAD, DaVinci Resolve, OBS, or Photoshop, and you’ll find that efficiency comes down to automating repetitive tasks. To do that, you can set up macros. In Fusion, for example, you might create macros to extrude by common distances, like 10mm or 50mm. But then you end up with more shortcuts than you can manage or remember, which is why the new UltraBar X can make your workflow more efficient.
UltraBar X is kind of like an Elgato Stream Deck, but in a modular package that is more suitable for a lot of desk arrangements. The CoreBar module features an ultrawide touchscreen for launching shortcuts, macros, and entire applications, or simply viewing information. Other modules add new interface elements, like physical buttons and a dial.
I saw the UltraBar X at Maker Faire Shenzhen and thought it was really intriguing. I played around with it and was immediately thinking of all the software I use on a regular basis that would be improved with this system.
The UltraBar X has that shortcut functionality described above, but its LineOS also enables direct control over other smart devices in your home. For instance, you can control Home Assistant or SONOS speakers. There are many other planned integrations for popular smart devices and IoT (Internet of Things) ecosystems, so support should be very good. And if the developers drop the ball for some reason, you can use the open SDK to create your own integrations.
Personally, I can’t wait to see someone controlling a robot from an UltraBar X.
If you want one of these nifty gadgets, you have until January 10th to back the Kickstarter campaign. Early birds can get the UltraBar X CoreBar Core Kit for $289 USD. Rewards should ship to backers in April.
