The Things Industries Boasts of a Major Milestone with Over a Million Devices Connected to Its Stack

The Things Stack now provides connectivity and management to more than a million devices across the globe — and growth continues.

The Things Industries, the company behind the community-driven The Things Network LoRaWAN project, has announced a milestone for its server infrastructure offering known as The Things Stack: over a million devices now connected.

"We are very proud to have come to this milestone. These connected devices of our customers all carry strong Internet of Things business cases that drive efficiency and sustainability," says The Things Industries' chief executive officer Wienke Giezeman. "It is an honor to serve our customers in all corners of the globe with their different Internet of Things LoRaWAN use cases. With an average total cost of ownership of a device in the field of $200 and a minimum four year return of 5x on that investment, we estimate our platform contributes to a more than $1B efficiency effort by our customers."

Founded in 2015, The Things Industries powers The Things Network — a community-driven deployment of LoRaWAN networks around the globe designed to give expansive coverage for low-bandwidth Internet of Things (IoT) projects. Its network is powered by The Things Stack, and the company provides commercial services to customers looking to manage and connect their IoT devices.

Following a range of big-ticket wins — including powering connectivity for around 150,000 smart water meters for a provider in the UK, 47,000 in-school air quality sensors across Canada, and getting German rail provider Deutsche Bahn's high-speed trains and stations connected — the company's stack now connects over a million devices worldwide.
