If you’re in the market for a 3D printer, you could buy one of the “usual suspects,” or even something in the sub-$500 range. On the other hand, if you’d like something that can accommodate large prints with the speed and versatility of two print heads, then the STACKER S2 is worth a look.
This “go anywhere, built like a tank” machine has been designed to be an industrial-grade 3D printer that’s affordable for both professional and educational use. The result— now available for just under $6,000 on Kickstarter — boasts a heavy-duty frame along with an impressive volume measuring 390mm x 315mm x 525mm (or 15.35" x 12.4" x 20.5”).
The S2’s dual-print heads enable users to perform various printing operations that would otherwise be impossible with a single head. These include copy mode, which locks the X-axis for both heads (ideal for printing two identical objects at the same time), and dual-color/material mode, which splits the heads up.
Additionally, it features casters on the bottom, which would help it fit in at schools or collaborative work environments! Interested? Check out S2 on Kickstarter, which has already more than doubled the STACKER team’s goal.
