Perhaps, like many people throughout the world, you have a hard time waking up using your phone or a traditional alarm clock. There are other solutions, such as a light that grows brighter in order to awaken you, but for something more extreme and much less pleasant, there’s the Duvet Eating Alarm Clock. Yes, this device by YouTuber “1up Living” litereally steals your covers to wake you up in the morning.

“An invention that steals your duvet in the morning leaving you shivering and exposed in a cruel and unfair world.”

The project is powered by a 2,000kg winch, which turns a wooden drum reminiscent of a medieval torture device. When turned, the drum wraps the bed’s covers around it, jarring the victim out of a restful sleep and back into reality.

To signal when it’s time to wake up, a mechanical hammer/bell alarm clock was modified with a strip of metal taken from a can to complete an input circuit. This signals an Arduino Uno to start the torturous process via a relay wired into the winch.

Are you a heavy sleeper looking for a not-so-subtle alarm? You can find details for the build here, and a demo of it in action below.
