The Banana Pi BPI-M5 Features 4GB RAM and an Optional Wi-Fi USB Dongle

The $53 single-board computer is powered by the Amlogic S905X3 quad-core Cortex-A55 processor and has the popular Mali-G31 MP2 GPU.

18 months after the release of Banana Pi BPI-M4, SinoVoip Co., Limited has launched the Banana Pi BPI-M5. Although Raspberry Pi has dominated the market for single-board computers, other popular lines include Banana Pi, OrangePi, and the BeagleBone, to name a few.

The Banana Pi BPI-M5 is the latest in the long list of SBCs for the manufacturer, featuring the Amlogic S905X3 quad-core Cortex-A55 (2.0xxGHz) processor. The SoC has an “optional neural network accelerator with 1.2 TOPS NN inference accelerator supporting TensorFlow and Caffe." It also has the popular Mali-G31 MP2 GPU with 4x execution engines (650Mhz) and supports 4GB LPDDR4 RAM. The processor has an onboard 16GB eMMC flash with support of up to 64GB along with a microSD slot with support for up to 256GB expansion.

The board measures just 92x60mm but has a 3.5mm audio jack along with an HDMI digital output to carry digital audio and video signals. The SBC has four USB 3.0 ports and 40 GPIO pins, which can be used for UART, I2C, SPI, or even PWM. The board gets 5V at 3A. via Micro USB (Type-C) of

Like other popular SBCs, the Banana Pi BPI-M5 comes with an Ethernet port and an optional Wi-Fi USB dongle. The board also supports video output of up to 4K at 60Hz with HDR.
