Modern watches can do more than just tell time. They can give you weather reports, track your fitness, and even play music. But just like with smartphones, their numerous functions can be overwhelming. I had a watch once, from the '90s, that had a manual about 1" thick. It also leads to issues regarding tracking, privacy, and security. Sometimes you just want to know what time it is. Subsystems introduce their own wrist accessory hat manages to get back to basics while adapting a high-tech model.

The ArcWatch may only tell time, but it does so in a unique fashion. Rather than having a stylish watch face, it’s an exposed circuit board with time represented by various LED lights. By pressing a button, the LED lights arc around counterclockwise and land on the current hour mark. It pauses for a few seconds and then arcs around clockwise to the major minute mark. It then flashes the number of minutes past the major minute mark. The buttons and lights are used to set the time as well.

It may not be the sleekest looking device on the market, but it certainly possesses some geek chicness. And as the company points out, there’s no fear of your data being collected. Cool as it may be, it seems like it could be frustrating for those who just need a quick glance at the time. If its been years since you’ve relied on an analog clock, then it may take a little while to get used to the lack of numbers.

The ArcWatch is now available for $25.
