Taoglas Boasts of a Partnership Approach to IoT Projects with New Rapid Development SOM Family

Working in partnership with its customers, Taoglas reckons it can seriously cut down on time-to-market for IoT products.

Internet of Things (IoT) specialist Taoglas has announced the launch of a new portfolio of system-on-module (SOM) devices, dubbed EDGE, which it claims can dramatically reduce development time — cutting up to 80 percent off time-to-market.

The Taoglas EDGE family of SOMs are claimed to be low-power, secure, and built atop a "highly-reliable, robust codebase." Precise specifications vary from model to model, but the key feature is that it's not a buy-it-and-you're-done model: The company pledges to support customers through the entire design, build, and deployment process.

"Whether it’s in the area of connected health, energy and utility, agriculture and industrial, or construction, Taoglas can ensure your project doesn't come up against any of the common challenges that normally face IoT projects time to market," claims Adrian Burns, head IoT solutions architect at Taoglas.

"With a proven and highly-reliable platform and approach, our team of world-class firmware and hardware experts, front-end and back-end developers and RF engineers will work with you to bring industry-leading IoT solutions to market quickly and cost-effectively. By working with Taoglas, there's no need to engage in a long and expensive design process."

"We can provide development, manufacturing and supply services for the complete hardware solution to be the one-stop-shop for enterprises looking to transform their business through IoT," Burns continues. "Taoglas can take one of our off-the-shelf SoMs and use it as is in your device to provide computing and connectivity, or we can quickly customize it with additional functionality, for example adding a camera vision component, or integrating it into your existing legacy equipment."

The company's new EDGE SOM portfolio includes: The EDGE EC55, which has an Arm Cortex-M7 processor, an on-board analytics engine, integrated cellular and Bluetooth connectivity, global navigation satellite system (GNSS) support, and a suite of seven environmental and motion sensors; the EDGE EM15, a multi-sensor design with cellular, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth Classic, Bluetooth Low Energy 5.2, and a dual-core processor; and the Taoglas EDGE IG25, aimed at industrial communications projects with integrated digital and analog inputs and outputs and industrial-rated connectors.

The company has more information on each of the models in its portfolio on the official website, but has not revealed pricing; the company's EDGE IoT Starter Kit, meanwhile, is available at $875.21.
