Today’s computer designs rarely venture outside of a basic rectangular shape, clinging to a form factor dictated more by decades-old manufacturing standards and efficient packaging than by the actual needs of the user. If you want something more interesting, you’re out of luck. That is, unless you want to design and build your own machine. But that would take forever and be really difficult, wouldn’t it?

Nope. Building a custom computer has never been easier. All of the necessary components are accessible and affordable, making the barrier to entry very low. If the right parts are selected, the build process is as easy as connecting a few wires and 3D printing a case. But despite this simplicity, the result can be a highly specialized tool that looks nothing like the black and gray boxes lining store shelves.

Take Redditor ManufacturerOk4505’s latest creation, for instance. Called the CyberDeck Pi, this handheld computer is powered by a user-friendly Raspberry Pi 5 8GB. When combined with a touchscreen display, NVMe SSD, and a Bluetooth keyboard, it makes a complete Linux system that can be used for whatever you have in mind. And with a set of three rechargeable 18650 batteries, CyberDeck Pi can hit the road with you.

It would be awkward lugging this hardware around by itself, however. Fortunately, ManufacturerOk4505 also designed a case to house the hardware that can be 3D printed. It looks fantastic, and you can be sure you won’t run into anyone else who has the same rig as you.

If you’d like to build your own CyberDeck Pi, you can download the 3D design files, which have been made publicly available. Details on the build are very light at this time, but considering how simple it is, you should be able to get by by simply looking at the pictures.
