Like many reading this, Jason Wolin spends a lot of time staring at computer and smartphone screens. This gets tiring, so he made an “artistic and refreshing way to view data in new ways” in the form of geared device that looks similar to a clock, but pulls data from the Internet via a Particle Photon for much more functionality.
His steampunkish CNC-cut unit uses an inner ring to signify what mode the “clock” is in, while an outer ring has a viewing slot that corresponds to the inner ring. His custom modes include everything from current weather and the day’s forecast to ski mountain conditions and river flow.
Color coordinated LEDs then display the data requested via Amazon Echo voice control so Wolin doesn’t have to look at his phone quite so often!
