STMicro Launches USB-IF-Certified 100W USB Power Delivery STM32 Development Platform

A two-board solution, the certified platform offers full compatibility with the STM32 ecosystem and the ability to sink 100W of power.

STMicroelectronics has announced the launch of a new USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) certified STM32 development board for those working on USB Power Delivery (USB PD) projects, offering up to 100W of power from compliant chargers.

"Using our USB-IF-certified development board," STMicro vice president Ricardo de Sa Earp claims. "Customers can now quickly add all of the USB-C benefits and reuse a solid platform for certification of their own board, contributing to a safe and reliable USB Type-C and USB PD ecosystem."

"The unmatched capabilities of USB PD over USB Type-C cables and connectors is driving rapid innovation in a variety of USB charging applications and markets," adds Jeff Ravencraft, USB-IF president and chief operating officer. "Inventive solutions, such as ST's new evaluation board, are vital to support the continued growth of USB-IF-certified USB PD and USB Type-C devices that consumers can rely on."

The development platform, which has received full USB-IF certification, is a combination of the company's Nucleo-G071RB and X-Nucleo-USBPDM1 development boards. The former offers an STM32G0 microcontroller, which integrates USB Type-C Power Delivery capabilities on-chip, and the latter a TCPP01-M12 companion chip for port protection. Both boards are, interestingly, sold separately β€” but only reach compliance with the certification requirements for 100W USB Power Delivery when used in tandem.
