SparkFun Partners with Machinechat for JEDI One Internet of Things OpenLog Data Collection Kits

New JEDI One bundles are designed to offer data logging, monitoring, and visualization on local hardware with no subscription fees.

SparkFun has announced a partnership, and corresponding product launches, with Machinechat — expanding its existing OpenLog Artemis offerings with Machinechat's JEDI One Internet of Things (IoT) platform.

"Our new partnership with Machinechat [results in] three OpenLog Data Collector with Machinechat kits," SparkFun's Chris McCarty explains, "the Base, Environmental Monitoring, and Air Quality Monitoring [kits]. Each [of these] kits feature our OpenLog Artemis, a unique JEDI One license and (depending on the kit) a set of different accessories."

While building on SparkFun's existing open-source OpenLog Artemis board, the bundles are the company's first to include a license for Machinechat's JEDI One platform. Designed as a turnkey application for the Internet of Things (IoT), JEDI One promises to provide an easy way to collect, monitor, and visualize data — using a software stack deployed locally and without the need for cloud connectivity or monthly subscription fees.

The Base Kit version of the new bundles includes a version of the OpenLog Artemis without on-board inertial measurement unit (IMU), owing to ongoing component shortages, and no bundled sensors — though plenty of cables — for anyone who already has devices to monitor. The Environmental Monitoring Kit adds in SparkFun's BME280 Atmospheric Sensor Breakout offering temperature, humidity, and pressure monitoring, while the Air Quality version swaps this out for the company's SGP40 air quality sensor.

All three kits come with a license key for Machinechat's JEDI One, in new "SparkFun Edition" guise, compatible with x86 PCs, servers, or single-board computers running Microsoft Windows 10, Apple macOS 10.13.6 or higher, or Ubuntu Linux 16.04 or higher and with 4GB or more RAM and at least 30MB of free disk space. Those who don't need the hardware can also buy the software license on its own, priced at $79 — or $349 for JEDI Pro, which adds support for Raspberry Pi 2 Model B or higher and BeagleBoard AM335x-based BeagleBone single-board computers.

The OpenLog Data Collector with Machinechat Base Kit, Environmental Monitoring Kit, and Air Quality Kit are now available on the SparkFun store, priced at $124.95, $144.95, and $149.95 respectively.
