Update (07/15/2025): Seeed Studio has now launched the promised ePaper variant of the Wio Tracker L1 Meshtastic node, unsurprisingly called the Wio Tracker L1 E-Ink.

"Whether you're building portable trackers, messaging nodes for off-grid or outdoor environments," the company says of the latest model in the family, "this device is optimized for ultra-low power consumption and maximum readability."

The Wio Tracker L1 E-Ink is available on the Seeed Studio store now, priced at $31.90.

Embedded and hobbyist electronics specialist Seeed Studio has announced a new entry in its Wio Tracker family of LoRa-enabled devices — designed to offer a similar footprint ot its compact T1000-E but with support for external antennas and an on-board display.

"We've been listening to the community," says Seeed's Lucy Guo of the company's latest product design. "Many of you asked for a Meshtastic tracker that’s about the same size as the T1000-E, but with a screen and support for external antennas. That's why we built the Wio Tracker L1 Pro — with the features you requested, plus more. [It's] specially designed for DIY users, outdoor explorers, and anyone who needs reliable, off-grid communication."

The Wio Tracker L1 Pro is built on Nordic Semiconductor's nRF52840, includes a 862–930MHz LoRa transceiver linked to a bundled external antenna, and a Quectel L76K Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver for location data. Unlike Seeed's earlier T1000-E, though, it also includes a compact 1.3" OLED display plus a four-way directional joystick, providing a means of interacting with the device without having to connect it to a smartphone, tablet, or other device.

The gadget includes a 3D-printed case, supplied as-standard, with a 2Ah battery delivering a claimed five days of active use. There's also room for more hardware, with unpopulated pin headers and a populated Grove-compatible expansion port — plus a Serial-Wire Debug (SWD) interface for firmware development and debugging.

For those who would like to customize the design a little, Seeed has also announced the Wio Tracker L1 and L1 Lite: the former is the board from inside the Wio Tracker L1 Pro minus the case, battery, and bundled antenna, while the latter drops the screen as well. The company has also teased an upcoming variant dubbed the Wio Tracker L1 E-Ink, which swaps the 1.3" OLED for a 2.13" ePaper display.

The new devices are now available to order on the Seeed Studio store, priced at $39.90 for the Wio Tracker L1 Pro, including a $3 discount for pre-orders, $29.90 for the Wio Tracker L1, and $27.90 for the Wio Tracker L1 Lite. Pricing for the ePaper variant had not been announced at the time of writing.
