Seeed Studio's Two-Channel Wi-Fi Energy Meter Comes Ready-Loaded with ESPHome Firmware
High-accuracy loop-style AC current meters provide precise energy monitoring, while the Espressif ESP32-C6 comes ready for Home Assistant.
Seeed Studio has launched a new compact gadget designed to add two-channel alternating current (AC) energy monitoring to a Home Assistant or compatible smart home system: the XIAO 2-Channel AC Wi-Fi Energy Meter.
"Today, we're excited to announce the XIAO 2-Channel AC Wi-Fi Energy Meter, a powerful and flexible solution for monitoring your home's energy production and usage," says Seeed's Lily Li of the launch. "With pre-flashed ESPHome firmware running on the XIAO ESP32-C6, this innovative device allows you to simultaneously monitor two independent AC circuits via Home Assistant Lovelace Dashboard, making it perfect for both solar production monitoring and individual appliance tracking."
The device itself is built around Seeed's compact XIAO ESP32-C6 development board, itself featuring an Espressif ESP32-C6 microcontroller. This comes, as Li says, pre-flashed with the ESPHome open-source firmware — designed for easy integration into Home Assistant smart home setups. There's a Shanghai Belling Co. BL0939 power monitoring chip plus two bundled loop-style AC current transformers with a claimed factory calibration good to a measurement margin of error of around one per cent.
As you'd expect from a device designed to be installed near your power equipment, the energy meter includes its own screw-terminal 100-240VAC power input, while the single-band 2.4GHz Wi-Fi radio is connected to a 2.81dBi dipole antenna — which can be replaced with your own choice of antenna if you need to position it for better signal strength.
A bundle of the energy monitor plus two current transformers, case, and antenna is now available on the Seeed store for $28.70.
