Seeed Studio Launches the reTerminal E ePaper Smart Display Family

Available in monochrome or color, and with support in a new no-code gen AI user interface platform dubbed Sensecraft HMI.

Seeed Studio has launched a new ePaper smart display, the reTerminal E — promising speedy human-machine interface (HMI) creation through a Sensecraft HMI, a no-code platform with artificial intelligence (AI) for layout and content generation.

"The reTerminal E, powered by [Espressif] ESP32-S3, [is] a groundbreaking new HMI display that will change how users interact with ePaper technology," says Seeed's Josie Wu of the new device and its supporting software. "Available in both a six-color version and a monocolor version, reTerminal E features a new[ly] released software platform — Sensecraft HMI, which includes AI-driven layout and content generation, one-click deployment, and no-code UI design for faster, smarter prototyping. With these capabilities, users can create prototypes more efficiently than ever before."

Both the monochrome and six-color variants of the reTerminal E are designed to be ready-to-use straight out of the box, complete with a metal chassis for desktop or wall-mounted use. There's an internal 2Ah battery good for a claimed three months of operation based on a six-hour refresh interval, which makes use of the deep-sleep mode of the Espressif ESP32-S3 microcontroller at its heart.

Both the color and monochrome display variants have a native 800×480 resolution, though their overall size differs slightly at 7.5" for the monochrome and 7.3" for the color variant. Both have integrated temperature and humidity sensors, a buzzer for audible alerts, and a microphone for voice control projects. There's a microSD Card slot, too, supporting cards up to 32GB.

The reTerminal E displays come with firmware supporting the TERMNL smart display ecosystem, ESPHome for Home Assistant integration as a smart home dashboard, and the option to write your own Arduino code. Sensecraft HMI, meanwhile, promises a no-code approach to HMI design through a drag-and-drop canvas and the option to use generative AI if none of the built-in templates appeal.

The reTerminal E is now available on the Seeed Studio store, priced at $109 for the six-color version and $79 for the monochrome version. More information is available on the company's wiki, with details on Sensecraft HMI available on the platform's dedicated page.
