Seeed Packs Its 13.3" Color ePaper Display, an Espressif ESP32 and Battery Into the reTerminal E1004

All-in-one smart display system offers a year of daily updates per charge, the company says — and you can win one of your very own now.

Seeed Studio has announced a new reTerminal human-machine interface, built around its recently-launched 13.3" color ePaper display and control board — now built into a frame with a rechargeable battery, ready-to-go.

"reTerminal E1004 [is an] elegant ePaper device designed to live like a photo frame," Seeed's Liora Chen explains of the latest entry in the company's HMI family. "At its heart is the [Espressif] ESP32-S3, quietly enabling fast, reliable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. Featuring a 13.3" E Ink Spectra 6 full-color display, it looks and feels like print with vibrant colors. With a built-in rechargeable battery, one single charge is enough to power it for up to a year, based on one refresh per day, no cords, ever. With unlimited storage and our web-based platform SenseCraft HMI, updating images or shaping what's displayed stays simple and flexible."

The new reTerminal is built around the same ePaper display Seeed unveiled back in early January, delivering six colors at a 1600×1200. It's based on electrophoretic display technology, meaning that it physical moves "ink" in order to display an image — delivering a paper-like panel that excels in strong ambient light and requires power only when it's changing states, a key feature for delivering Seeed's promise of year-long battery life from each charge.

While the display and its controller board were previously only available as a do-it-yourself kit, the new reTerminal E1004 bundles everything into one ready-to-go package — including a frame to keep the electronics safe. The display can be driven by custom firmware on the microcontroller, or for ease of development comes with a firmware compatible with Seeed's in-house Sensecraft HMI platform for rapid human-machine interface app production and deployment.

"To celebrate the launch," Chen says, "we invite you to design and publish your own template on SenseCraft HMI. The creator whose template receives the most likes will win a free reTerminal E1004! No device yet? No problem. You can still design, publish, and join the fun. The winner will be announced based on the number of likes received by 12:00 PM (UTC+8) on March 1, 2026, excluding templates published by the official team."

The reTerminal E1004 is now available on the Seeed Studio store, priced at $279.90 before volume discounts.
