Our friends at SAM Labs have just launched a new invention kit that enables young Makers to build and program their own RC cars, games, and more. Introducing CURIO.

Each kit includes five paper-fold car bodies, a car base, a remote control, a couple wheels, microUSB cables, and six SAM modules: an RGB light, a tilt sensor, a button, a slider and two DC motors.

CURIO’s components are mounted onto small plastic blocks, each one containing a USB-rechargeable battery and a Bluetooth module. This allows them talk to one another and to a host PC, smartphone or tablet running SAM Labs’ drag-and-drop visual programming app.

Makers can then use the SAM Space app to configure their SAM racer — choosing the speed, the control mechanisms, the direction, and more.

The app’s workspace also contains virtual blocks that perform functions, like snapping a photo from the host device’s camera, playing a sound, sending a tweet, or triggering an IFTTT recipe.
