A PC mouse is a personal peripheral where one size or one feature fits all. Some prefer a mouse with tons of buttons, like those made for MMORPGs, while others prefer a minimalistic approach. Form factor, weight, button placement, and wireless/wired are just a few preferences that users consider when choosing mice. While there have been a few that have adjustable features, such as Mad Catz R.A.T.7, none have been fully modular, where nearly every aspect of the mouse can be changed.

Electronics engineer "benw" thinks he has the solution to the one-mouse-fits-all solution with his RX-Modulus. This completely modular mouse can be adjusted to suit the user's hands, fixed if it becomes damaged, and upgraded with different modules as they become available.

The RX-Modulus features an adjustable shape, multiple grip styles, and a panel system that defines the final shape of the mouse.

Beyond its customizable shape features, benw has designed several modules for the RX-Modulus, which includes a Touch-D variant of the primary click-button function that uses a TFT display interface for touch-based inputs. There's also a Smart Scroll module with adjustable feedback, replaceable feedback plate, and contactless positioning. Finally, there is a module that allows users to switch out the laser sensor when needed.

Most of the mouse's components can be 3D-printed to suit a user's needs, and benw states all modules will support the 'Side Pack Modular System,' which enables different functions to be added, such as an internet page back and forward. The RX-Modulus is still in its development phase, and benw is currently looking for help from others to bring his open source project to reality.
