Renesas has introduced new AI Solution Kits for its RA-series 32-bit microcontrollers. The AIK-RA4E1 and AIK-RA6M3 reference platforms have multiple reconfigurable connectivity functions and aim to help you accelerate your artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML)-based designs.

The new boards feature a Renesas RA4E1 or RA6M3 microcontroller (MCU), Pmod ports, multiple interfaces, and an onboard Segger J-Link debugger. They work with Renesas Reality AI Software.

The RA4E1 is an entry-level MCU based on a 100 MHz Arm-Cortex-M33 core. The core in the RA6M3 is a 32-bit Arm Cortex-M4 capable of 120 MHz. It also includes integrated support for Ethernet and a TFT controller. The kits break out the functions of these microcontrollers.

The printed circuit board for both kits appears to be the same. However, the connectivity options available slightly differ. For example, the AIK-RA6M3 has six Pmod ports, while the AIK-RA4E1 has three. Both boards support USB Full Speed and CAN. Since the RA4E1 lacks Ethernet, only the AIK-RA6M3 supports it.

Both kits have a Pmod module with a TDK ICM-42670-P six-axis IMU. The RA6M3 kit also includes a TFT display, camera, and microphone. The feature sets allow both boards to support an asset movement recognition application example. The additional hardware of the AIK- RA6M3 works with Renesas's Aizip Personal Access System (PAS) to add face and voice recognition capability.

The kits' documentation includes a quick start guide, bill of materials, schematics, and PCB files for design and manufacturing.

You can learn more about these boards and Renesas AI solutions here. Both kits are now available from Renesas or are in stock with distributors for $231.25.
