PixlTag: A High-Tech Accessory for Modern Networking
PixlTag breathes new life into networking with a custom, NFC-enabled LED display that makes every introduction memorable.
Ever since the late 2000s when the technology hit the mainstream, people have been sharing their resumes, personal websites, and social media profiles with people they meet via a tap or bump of their phone. It used to be a fairly impressive technology, and by using it, people signaled that they were up on the latest in tech. But these days, NFC transfers are about as bland as a paper business card.
CBX Labs is hoping to bring the “wow factor” back to these interactions with a device called PixlTag. It has a programmable NFC tag that can be made to share any information the owner wants, but that’s not all. PixlTag also has a high-density, 216-pixel circular LED matrix display that can show images or animations that are memorable and attention-grabbing.
The device pairs with a companion phone app via Bluetooth, which allows for customization of both the NFC information and the display. Users can draw their own custom graphics, or even program the device to play simple games, like Pong. An integrated 6-axis accelerometer can be used as an input or for gesture detection, and a 100 mAh rechargeable battery will keep PixlTag running for days.
PixlTag will soon be launching on Kickstarter. There is no word yet on the cost, but you can sign up to receive notifications when the campaign gets underway. More information about the device is available on the official website.
