The most important specification in determining an MSLA (Masked Stereolithography) 3D printer's quality is pixel size. That is a function of the LCD panel's resolution and size, which is why we're seeing an arms race among 3D printer manufacturers to produce MSLA models with ultra-high-resolution screens. To push out the competition, Phrozen created the new Sonic Mighty 8K and will take preorders starting on April 21st.

We recently reviewed the Phrozen Sonic Mini 8K and were very impressed with the printer's capabilities. Like that model, the new Phrozen Sonic Mighty 8K has a high resolution LCD panel (7,680 x 4,320). But the Mini had a smaller 7.1" panel to prioritize fine details at a pixel size of 22µm. The Mighty prioritizes large parts instead, with a 10" LCD resulting in a build volume of 218 x 123 x 235mm — almost three times larger than the Mini.

Even though the Phrozen Sonic Mighty 8K has a very large build volume, that 8K LCD panel means the pixel size is still very small (28µm) compared to most competing MSLA resin 3D printers. This gives you the ability to print parts that are both large and very detailed.

It should print quickly, too. Phrozen claims that the Sonic Mighty 8K prints at 70mm/hr (we assume that is at the standard 50µm layer height). Phrozen was also smart enough to allow for third-party slicers, so users won't be locked into a single slicer ecosystem. And while you can use any resin, Phrozen developed their own 8K resin that should make the most of this printer.

If you want to get your hands on the new Phrozen Sonic Mighty 8K, preorders open on April 21st at 10AM EDT. The preorder price is $749.99 for the printer alone and you can receive a $200 coupon if you place a $50 deposit now.
