Pervasive Displays Teams Up with Arduino, Silicon Labs to Launch a Matter ePaper Development Kit
2.9" display and a pair of on-board sensors connects to an Arduino Nano Matter to allow for easy experimentation.
ePaper specialist Pervasive Displays has teamed up with Arduino to design what it claims as the first ePaper development kit to boast support for the Matter home automation standard — pairing one of its 2.9" ePaper displays with an Arduino Nano Matter.
"The Matter protocol is a breakthrough innovation for the interoperability of home automation devices. The hardware and software options from Arduino, and the expertise of Silicon Labs in radio modules, have made a natural choice for this kit," says Pervasive Display's Charming Su. "The ePaper display is a perfect match with Matter for ultra-low-power projects. Our EPDK-Matter development kit makes it very easy for anyone to develop ultra-low energy consumption and high-performance applications that require a display and a rich assortment of sensors."
"The Arduino Nano Matter integrates seamlessly with the extensive Arduino ecosystem, offering tools and examples that simplify the exploration of Matter and accelerate application development by abstracting complex processes," adds Arduino chief executive officer Fabio Violante. "The EPDK-Matter development kit is an excellent entry point for both makers and professionals, including those in industrial sectors. Additionally, this kit inspires creativity for a wide range of home automation applications powered by e-paper technology."
The kit bundles Pervasive Displays' 2.9" 384×168 (144 dots per inch) black-and-white ePaper display panel with its EXT4 Expansion board, adding battery holders, a user-addressable button, RGB LED, Near-Field Communication (NFC) antenna, three-axis accelerometer, and an environmental sensor for temperature and relative humidity, plus an adapter that mounts a Silicon Labs MGM240S-powered Arduino Nano Matter board at the side.
It's this latter bit of kit that provides the promised Matter compatibility, with Pervasive Displays building on the Matter library in the official Silicon Labs Arduino Core to deliver a high-level interface for the display and examples of two possible use-cases: a remotely-controlled light and an environmental sensor.
More information on the kit is available on the Pervasive Displays website; the company has confirmed that the EPDK-Matter bundle should be available in the Arduino store soon, with early adopters invited to pick up a pack from resellers in the channel now at $38.75. Additional information is available in the Arduino documentation.
