If you play Overwatch, you’re certainly familiar with Mei, who travels with a small robotic weather-controlling drone named, appropriately, Snowball. YouTuber “Mr. Volt” decided to recreate this contraption in real life by 3D printing the bot, complete with thrusters on the bottom, and ears that flap up and down via linear actuators.

Mr. Volt’s prop is also equipped with a pair of LCD eyes hidden behind a dark translucent visor to complete its personality, while sounds are stored as MP3s on a 4D Systems SOMO II board and connected to a 3W speaker.

The Photon communicates wireless with a Blynk app, which enables Mr. Volt to remotely control Snowball’s eyes, ears, and sound effects. (📷: Mr. Volt)

A Particle Photon is used to control the weather drone’s eyes, ears, and sound effects over Wi-Fi with a Blynk smartphone app. Cleverly, a ¼–20 nut is hidden between the three bottom thrusters, allowing it to be mounted on a standard tripod or other device as needed.
