Original Centauri Carbon Owners Can Now Get Elegoo’s CANVAS Multi-Material System
Elegoo is releasing CANVAS for the original Centauri Carbon.
When Elegoo launched the original Centauri Carbon, it became one of the best values on the market. I expected a multi-material system to come out for that, but it didn’t arrive. Then, the Centauri Carbon 2 came out with the CANVAS multi-material system and I feared that the original Centauri Carbon would never get it as an option. But I need not have worried, because Elegoo is releasing CANVAS for the original Centauri Carbon.
This is great news, because there were some rumors going around that the original Centauri Carbon couldn’t work with the CANVAS multi-material system. Those rumors implied that the Centauri Carbon’s controller simply didn’t support the CANVAS interface.
Thankfully, those rumors were incorrect. Elegoo released the CANVAS for the Centauri Carbon as a pre-order. It appears to be sold out at the moment, but I’m sure Elegoo will take more orders soon. So while it might require some patience, Centauri Carbon owners can at least feel some relief that CANVAS will eventually be an option for them.
I reviewed CANVAS alongside the Centauri Carbon 2 and it is a pretty decent system. It can swap between four different filament spools mounted to the side of the printer (or in dry boxes) and has an RFID reader to detect spools from Elegoo. Unlike Bambu’s AMS, you do have to tap the spool to the CANVAS unit to register it, but the process is pretty quick.
The big advantage of CANVAS, compared to the AMS and other similar systems, is the very low price. The CANVAS for Centauri Carbon unit, purchased by itself, costs just $55.00, which is pretty darn affordable. That is in keeping with the Centauri Carbon’s overall position as a low-price, high-value machine.
If you own a Centauri Carbon and have been waiting for the CANVAS, you can head over to the Elegoo store to ask for a notification when more stock is available for purchase.
