3D vision specialist Orbbec has unveiled a new industrial-grade stereo vision camera in its lineup, the Gemini 435Le β€” targeting robotics projects that need a highly-adaptive vision system.

"The Gemini 435Le represents another important milestone in our pursuit of industrial-grade 3D vision excellence," says Orbbec's Brad Suessmith of the camera's launch, which the company says is to complement rather than disrupt its current product portfolio. "It's not about disrupting for the sake of disruption, but about delivering highly adaptable, high-performance solutions that empower customers to succeed across even the most diverse and fragmented industrial automation scenarios."

The Gemini 435Le is a stereo vision camera with a 1280Γ—800 resolution at ten frames per second, or 640Γ—400 when the framerate is boosted to 20 frames per second. It offers a 90Γ—65Β° field of vision at two meters, plus or minus three degrees, and combines its infrared depth sensor with a matched-resolution RGB camera offering a 94Γ—68Β° field of vision at the same distance β€” both of which use a global shutter.

The "e" suffix in the model name indicates gigabit Ethernet connectivity, with streaming supported over TCP/IP and RTSP protocols; the camera also includes two eight-pin M12 connectors, one X-coded and one A-coded, and supports Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) with an average power draw of under 8W and a peak below 15W β€” both somewhat higher than if powered directly via its DC power connector, at sub-6.5W average and sub-11W peak.

The company is making much of the camera's flexibility for a variety of use cases: the camera includes two presets as standard, for autonomous mobile robotics (AMR) perception and dimensioning respectively, with custom presets available "upon business consultation and assessment." Orbbec has also pledged to release additional depth presets soon, though at the time of writing had not revealed what these would be.

The Gemini 435Le is due to go on-sale in mid-July, the company has confirmed, at $499; additional information is available on the company's website.
