Following on the success of the Omega2 and Omega2 Plus, Onion is back with a third installment in their Omega line. Introducing the Omega2 Pro — a self-contained platform with the processor, memory, storage, and Wi-Fi radio baked into a single board. Onion states it will come pre-loaded with OpenWrt and can be programmed in nearly any language, including Python, GoLang, NodeJS, C++, PHP, and a host of others.

Although the exact hardware details are limited, the Omega2 Pro features an Omega2 Core SoC, 8Gb of eMMC, a 30-pin GPIO header, micro USB port, USB host port, USB-to-serial, built-in Chip antenna, RGB LED, programmable button, and power management options. More hardware details will probably emerge when Onion begins their Crowd Supply campaign in the oming weeks.

As with the Omega2 and Omega2 Plus, the Pro will be able to take advantage of the OnionOS — a web-based GUI interface that hosts a number of apps that can be used to configure and control the board. The latest revision sports an improved code editor and a fully-fledged terminal.

They’ve also included an app for their new NFC-RFID Expansion board, as well as the ability to switch between open apps on the sidebar and to close them out by clicking on the ‘X.’ There’s no word yet on cost for the Omega2 Pro, or when the campaign will kick off; however, you can receive update notices if you subscribe to their Crowd Supply page.
