Do you miss having a physical clock that tells you the time and reliably wakes you up in the morning? Sure, smartphones can do this as well, but what if there was something that tells you the time, gives you updates on the weather and your calendar, helps charge your devices, and can even be controlled via Alexa or IFTTT? That’s the idea behind the Oboo Smart Clock, now on Kickstarter.
The clock, which comes in a beautiful charcoal grey color, features a 7-segment number display on the left hand side, similar to “traditional” digital clocks. It adds in the ability to dim itself so it doesn’t disturb your sleep, while still allowing a quick check of the time. The real magic happens on the right side, where a series of informational “cards” can be swiped through via a gesture sensor, and controlled via a touch bar on top.
The bar features a lighting system, which allows it to change into a series of virtual buttons, or even act as a night light as needed. It automatically turns on when the clock detects you’ve turned off the other lights, and can be dismissed with the wave of a hand.
Oboo is developed by Onion, the team that produced the Onion Omega IoT computer in 2015. Inside, the clock is powered by its successor, the Omega2. There are several other interesting features of this gadget, like the ability to play music, and it can even be shipped with a wireless charging pad. Be sure to check it out and back it for yourself on Kickstarter!
