Niryo One Brings 6-Axis Robots to the Masses!

If you see an industrial robot in action, there is a good chance it’s of the “six-axis” variety, meaning they have six controllable joints, allowing it to work in much the same way as a human. These capable bots generally sell for many tens of thousands of dollars (or even more), so unless you’re a tech billionaire, until now you needed a large company footing the bill for one.

Niryo One, however, is available on Kickstarter for just over $1,000 fully assembled, or less if you want to do some of the work yourself. Although you might not see it welding a car chassis anytime soon, as shown in the video below, it can be used to play games, automate household tasks, or learn about robotics.

It can be programmed through a variety of methods, such as Arduino for more simpler builds or Raspberry Pi with ROS for advanced and autonomous features. Whereas experienced Makers can customize Niryo One using a Python API, beginners can learn to program with Blockly or teach theirs new sequences by hand.

Niryo One can be controlled via a number of different interfaces, including web browser, mobile device, and joystick. In the future, Niryo will be able to receive G-code commands as well, enabling it to be function as a CNC machine.
