MegaIO-IND Brings Industrial and Building Automation with Pi

Sequent Microsystems is set to release Version 2 of their MegaIO-IND platform designed to work with the Raspberry Pi, allowing you to use the stackable expansion card to automate nearly any industrial function or building application.

Labeled as “the Swiss Army knife of industrial automation for the Raspberry Pi,” Sequent developed the board using feedback from the original backers. New changes include a user-configurable I/O, the addition of status LEDs (for digital inputs/outputs) and pulse width modulation (for four digital outputs), as well as a software-configurable push button.

Beyond that, Sequent enables you to add more options to the MegalO-IND, like replacing the 4–20mA inputs with four 10K temperature sensors wired directly to the board, or four optically isolated 4–20mA inputs with extra 0–10V outputs.

As for the rest of the hardware specs, the MegaIO-IND features an onboard 32-bit Cortex-M0+ microcontroller, 24DC power supply (5V for the Pi), RTC with battery backup, 4X 10A/250V relays, and configurable interrupts from any input and push button. Communication is done through RS485, CAN, and 1-Wire, and you can stack up to four board — however any number of them can be controlled using a single Raspberry Pi.

Sequent Microsystems is currently crowdfunding their MegaIO-IND board on Kickstarter and can be upgraded with a variety of different input options, including additional digital I/O, relays, or the “works.” Pledges start at $28 for a single “a la Carte” board and up to $60 for the works.
