Our friends at PiBorg are no strangers to creating robots. With hopes of making them bigger and even more awesome, the team has just launched a powerful 5 Amp dual motor controller for the Raspberry Pi along with an aluminum rover to push its limits.
The ThunderBorg is supplied with an array of software to interface with the Pi and to control the MonsterBorg bot. It can be operated remotely via gamepads and joysticks, through a web-based browser like a spy-bot to creep up on your friends, as well as autonomously with a bit of code.
For those familiar with PiBorg, the ThunderBorg is actually an upgraded version of the popular PicoBorg Reverse controller. The latest piece of hardware, which mounts directly onto your Raspberry Pi, includes onboard voltage monitoring, an RGB LED, and a built-in DC/DC converter — all in a form factor about the size of a Zero. The ThunderBorg is easily daisy-chainable, too.
Now the reallllly exciting part. MonsterBorg boasts four-inch diameter all-terrain wheels and an impressive three hour battery life. Moreover, it can be programmed as a self-driving rover, used for education about autonomous systems, or raced around the garden as an RC off-roader. It also makes a great platform for hacking with the addition of extra sensors or servos.
